Granada, Seville + Cordoba

Alhambra, GranadaGranada - a city full of romance and folklore
Granada sits 2,000 ft. above sea level, at the foot of the magnificent Sierra Nevada mountains, and itself sits on two hill tops, the Alhambra and the Albaicin. It is a city full of romance and folklore and was the last stronghold of Moorish Spain. The city's location and history combine to make it a wonderful place to visit providing much to see within the city together with superb views of the surrounding country on one side and the mountains on the other. In Spanish granada means pomegranate and this fruit is the symbol of the city although it is believed that the name Granada originates from the Moorish word Karnattah. Although there is much to see in the city the highlight of any tour must be the world famous Alhambra Palace. This was originally built as a defensive structure but became the residence of the Sultan.

SevilleSeville - City life that's very Moorish
Seville is tucked into the south-west corner of the Iberian peninsula, at the centre of Moorish Andalucia. The region feels as North African as its 8th-century conquerors; from the intense summer heat to its dazzling tile-clad buildings and shady, geometric gardens. The city is Spain's fourth largest yet feels much smaller at its ancient core, where a maze of narrow alleys and cobbled streets crisscross one another around the cathedral. This huge structure is larger than St Peter's in Rome, yet the sheer density of the surrounding buildings obscure its bulk until you are almost on top of it. Originally a 12th-century mosque, the current structure was built in the 15th century by Christian elders who wished to create "a church which those who see it will think we were mad for attempting". Attached to its main section is the 300ft-high Giralda, a minaret of the original mosque that is now the cathedral's bell-tower and Seville's defining monument

Mezquito, CordobaCordoba - and the Mezquita Catedral de Cordoba
Ten centuries ago Cordoba was one of the greatest cities in the world. It was the capital of Muslim Spain and Europe's largest city. At that time it had public baths, mosques, a great library and numerous palaces. Unfortunately, with Spain's mixed history each successive conqueror carted away much of it's treasures and destroyed many of its buildings. Nevertheless it still retains much of its fascination and is a wonderful place to visit for it's atmosphere, artistic and architectural treasures and wonderful homes. The city recently became one of UNESCO's World Heritage sites and that honour alone indicates its value as a place to visit.
